Vanishing Point [page 2]

It was as if my whole life until this point had been a dream. The past receded from my memory like a tide of lost moments, ebbing into nothingness, never to return.

All the choices and decisions which had brought me here no longer mattered, for I had reached a point of singularity in my life, a unique moment of crystal clarity which would determine and define not only what was to come, but what had gone before.

To go back the way I had come was not an option, for in truth, for me, it no longer existed.

There was only the staircase.

Spiralling above and below me, the staircase appeared to contravene the laws of perspective. Instead of growing smaller as it became more distant and eventually disappearing into a point, it seemed to grow larger as it ascended and descended, encompassing more and more space until it filled my field of vision entirely.

If this was truly so, I thought, then I must be the Vanishing Point where it all ends, where it all begins.

  1. I went up
  2. I went down
