The rain continues to pour as you run towards a shop to escape the downpour. Not noticing the sign above the store you push open the door and hear a familiar chime. You look around but see no one, only empty shelves and a spiral staircase leading up and down. You can't remember the store having a second floor, but you push the thought aside when you see a piece of paper on one of the shelves. You pick it up and read: "You are at the beginning. False starts always lead to some end and now you must choose". Under these words is a picture of the staircase. By now, you are dry and extremely curious about this, so you decide to:

Go up the staircase.
Go down the staircase.
