Haircase
[page 2]
The sun rose. Slowly, as to prolong as much as possible that magic moment when the night fled and the forest filled up with new life. Birds were singing joyfully, welcoming the new day. A slight breeze stirred the leaves of old and mighty oak trees. The chuckling from a small stream nearby completed this symphony of peace and serenity.
I had arrived at a small glade. A tall tower loomed in front of me. There was a sign there. It said: "The stairs are hair". What kind of spellig was that? Besides there certainly was no stairs neither "hair" nor there. Just solid masonry all the way. Suddenly something soft but most of all heavy fell down upon me and struck me to the ground. Cursing I struggled out of a tangle of blond, greasy, bad smelling... ...hair?
"Oh my brave prince, you've finally come to rescue me!"
I looked up. A young girl watched me from the top of the tower. Her hair streamed right to the ground, and further down into a rather large hole in the ground where a human-sized rabbit dressed in a pair of Levi's 501 and a t-shirt saying "Rabbits do it everywhere" popped out, patting a soggy stoogie and protesting madly. I ignored it for now.
"Excuse me lady," I said. "Do I look like a brave prince to you?"
She looked at me, sizing me up. "Oh I'm so sorry. I thought you were someone else," she replied. "But since you're here, why don't you just come up and have a cup of tea. I haven't talked to anyone for five years, and even someone like you would be welcome right now."
Feeling more than a little insulted, I
- climb up to her.
- climb down to talk to the rabbit.
