Though many routes had branched off from the staircase (many of which had degenerated into an unknown mess,) the staricase remained, forever standing. Why had it been built? To what end was it for?
Those who knew this staircase well could see into its everchanging surface; though it was a simple oakwood surface at first, later it may have been made of rose crystal or blackened steel. The places it led to were no exception, though it seemed that the space made for those parts outside the staircase was considerably less than that given to the staircase itself....
And then there had been all those named and unnamed, who ventured either up or down, running into a myriad of situations, entities, and feelings. Perhaps some of this wore off on the staricase, now with shiny bronze-plated steps and sporting a bright saffron handrail, spiraling around a Plexiglass elevator (for even fantastic realms such as these are handicapped accessible.)
